STREP Your child was evaluated in the emergency department today for a sore throat. Their evaluation suggests they likely have strep throat. Your child was prescribed antibiotics. Please give the antibiotics to your child as directed. Please give your child tylenol and motrin for the pain. You can alternate these two medications every 3 hours. For example you can give your child tylenol, then three hours you can give your child ibuprofen. Please follow up with your child's primary care physician within two days. Return to the Emergency Department if your child experiences worsening or uncontrolled pain, tongue swelling, difficulty swallowing, difficulty breathing, fevers 100.4F or greater, recurrent vomiting, or any other concerning symptoms. Their evaluation suggests their symptoms are due to a viral illness which will resolve on its own and cannot be treated with antibiotics. Please give your child tylenol and motrin for the pain. You can alternate these two medications every 3 hours. For example you can give your child tylenol, then three hours you can give your child ibuprofen.
