PERC The likelihood this patient has a pulmonary embolism is extremely low. Using the PERC criteria on this patient (age <50, HR <100, O2 sat > or = 95, no hemoptysis, no estrogen use, no hx DVT/PE, no unilateral leg swelling, no surgery or trauma in the last 4 wks req hospitalization) their likelihood for having a PE is less than 1.4% (false negative rate). The likelihood this patient would be harmed from further testing after the PERC test to investigate a PE is 1.8%. The harm caused to the patient is more likely and outweighs any further diagnostic evaluation currently.
